Research Summit: Driving the Future of Clinical Research with ConnectHope (EPIC) Tools

Duarte, CA US
August 5, 2025

Although research-specific training is offered to the research community, including Principal Investigators (PIs), clinical research nurses, research coordinators, and research associates, there is a lack of knowledge gap assessment and ongoing support. The PIs typically do not attend research-specific training, instead, they rely on job aids and guides that support research documentation needs and work collaboratively with the research support staff as needed. As a result, individuals involved in research activities are not fully proficient in navigating the tools that are currently available in ConnectHope and lack knowledge of the complete range of functionalities that are available in Epic to support the entire research process, including: cohort feasibility, recruitment, study execution, capture study-specific data, study management, and analytics. In an ideal practice, the complete range of functionalities in Epic that aligns with the research strategic goals would be enabled, and PIs and research support staff would possess the knowledge and skills to leverage these capabilities, allowing them to seamlessly incorporate ConnectHope tools into their research workflows and optimize efficiency.

This Research Summit is necessary to address gaps in awareness and knowledge related to the use of the ConnectHope tools across all members of the research community. Currently there is minimal emphasis on leveraging the complete range of available tools, leaving the PIs, clinical research nurses, and the research support staff to rely only on the existing research functionalities. Focused demonstrations highlighting the existing features and the full range of functionalities in Epic will bolster the entire research process, including cohort feasibility, recruitment, study execution, capture of study-specific data, study management, and analytics. This activity aims to bridge current knowledge gaps, promote best practices, and empower the research community to fully integrate the research tools to advance clinical and translational research initiatives.
