Caring For Patients At Risk For Gynecologic Cancer And Pelvic Floor Disorders: Best Practices For The Prevention And Diagnosis Of Gynecological Cancers And Treatment Of Pelvic Floor Challenges
80% of patients with ovarian cancer are diagnosed in advanced stage cancer which results in significant mobidity and morality. Multiple factors play a role in the effective treatment and management of patients diagnosed with ovarian cancer. There exists a tremendous amount of data which clinicians require to obtain in order to remain aware of the most effective strategies to diagnose and treat these processes and optimize quality of life. This program will address the latest evidence and guidelines regarding diagnostic studies, physical exams, imaging and interventions for providers caring for these patients.
This program will discuss the prevention and diagnosis of gynecologic cancer and pelvic floor disorders with a focus on the evolving treatment paradigms for genetic testing, diagnostic studies including imaging and circulating tumor DNA, optimization of lifestyle decisions, and interventions for pre-cancers of the gynecologic organs. Additionally, this program will describe interventions to improve quality of life with a focus on UTIs, urinary incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse after treatment for pelvic pre-cancer and/or cancer.
Target Audience
This educational activity is directed towards family practitioners, internal medicine, gynecology and obstetrics, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, gynecologic oncologists and other allied heathcare providers interested in the topic of caring for patients at risk for gynecologic cancer and pelvic floor disorders.
Learning Objectives
- Outline management strategies for the initial evaluation and diagnosis of ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, and cervical cancer.
- Evaluate the role and type of germline genetic testing for those patients at risk for gynecologic cancer.
- Examine lifestyle prevention strategies and early diagnosis techniques to optimize the care of those patients who may have gynecologic cancer.
- Identify and assess pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence in the setting of pelvic cancer treatment.
- Outline strategies to improve quality of life for those patients with pelvic floor disorders.
- Discuss possible barriers and biases which may impact patient care (i.e., race, ethnicity, language, gender identity/orientation, age, socioeconomic status, attitudes, feelings, or other characteristics).
