The Increase Incidence of Thyroid Cancer and Oral Cancer Detection, Diagnosis and Treatment
Thyroid and Oral Cancers continue to present important challenges for healthcare providers. Although advances in diagnosis and treatment have improved outcomes, early recognition and timely referral remain inconsistent across clinical practices, specifically in areas where there are limitations to access to this specialty care. Therefore, there is a need to improve clinician knowledge of the rising incidence in Thyroid Cancer, contemporary approaches to thyroid nodule evaluation and risk stratification and best practices for early detection, diagnosis and treatment for oral cancer.
The incidence of thyroid and oral cancers has increased over the past several decades, highlighting the need for timely recognition and evaluation in primary care settings. As diagnostic approaches, referral guidelines, and treatment options continue to advance, providers may benefit from education on current evidence-based practices for early detection and management. Because these cancers are encountered less frequently in routine practice yet are often first identified by primary care and family medicine physicians, improving knowledge of diagnostic and referral pathways may help facilitate earlier diagnosis and better patient outcomes.
Target Audience
Internists, primary care and family practice physicians, otolaryngologists, oral surgeons and all other allied health care professionals interested in the subject matter.

- Recognize the early signs, symptoms, and risk factors for thyroid and oral cancers.
- Apply current evidence-based guidelines for evaluation and diagnosis.
- Identify patients who require additional testing or specialist referral.
- Incorporate best practices into clinical care to support early diagnosis.
