Prostate cancer management has evolved significantly over the past three decades, transitioning from an acute oncologic condition to a chronic disease requiring long term, multidisciplinary care. Many clinicians struggle to stay current with emerging evidence, evolving treatment paradigms, and survivorship strategies due to time constraints, limited access to specialized education, and variability in institutional practices. As a result, care often focuses on short term outcomes rather than sustained quality of life improvement and chronic disease management.
Many clinicians lack comprehensive understanding of prostate cancer as a chronic disease, including long term management strategies, survivorship care, and integration of emerging therapies. Current practice often focuses on acute treatment phases rather than sustained monitoring and quality of life optimization, leading to inconsistent outcomes and fragmented care. Ideal practice requires continuous application of updated evidence-based guidelines, multidisciplinary collaboration, and proactive management of treatment related side effects and comorbidities. This educational activity addresses these gaps by providing the latest clinical insights and practical approaches to improve performance, care coordination, and patient outcomes across all stages of prostate cancer.
Target Audience
Physicians, including primary care providers, urologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and other related specialties, as well as advanced practice providers, registered nurses and all other health care providers interested in the subject matter.
Learning Objectives
- Demonstrate the ability to apply updated prostate cancer screening and management guidelines to improve early detection and long term patient outcomes.
- Examine current evidence-based approaches for diagnosis, treatment selection, and chronic care management of prostate cancer.
- Discuss multidisciplinary strategies that enhance coordination among urologists, oncologists, radiologists, primary care providers, and allied health professionals.
- Integrate novel therapeutic advances and survivorship care models into clinical practice to optimize patient safety, quality of life, and continuity of care.
- Assess barriers to implementing guideline-based prostate cancer care and develop practical solutions to improve adherence, communication, and performance across diverse practice settings.
- Discuss possible barriers and biases which may impact patient care (i.e., race, ethnicity, language, gender identity/orientation, age, socioeconomic status, attitudes, feelings, or other characteristics).
