2023 Department of Medicine Grand Rounds | Scrambler Therapy, A New Form of Electro-Analgesia

Duarte, CA US
January 25, 2023

There is a large unmet need for more treatment options for cancer patients and survivors with chronic pain.  Electrical/physical based therapies show promise and unique advantages over current standard of care. Current practice involves physical therapy and pharmaceutical agents that are usually not completely effective and can cause side effects.

Despite FDA clearance, there is still little wide-spread use or inclusion in guidelines for such therapy. This activity will raise awareness of scrambler therapy and when to consider it for patients with chronic chemotherapy-induced neuropathy or other types of neuropathic pain.

Target Audience

All physicians.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify appropriate patients for referral for scrambler therapy.
  • Examine different types of electro-analgesia.
  • Identify limitations of scrambler therapy
  • Discuss possible barriers and biases which may impact patient care (i.e., race, ethnicity, language, gender identity/orientation, age, socioeconomic status, attitudes, feelings, or other characteristics).
