2024 Department of Medicine Grand Rounds | An Overview of Autoimmune and Paraproteinemia Related Neuropathies

Duarte, CA US
January 24, 2024

Neuropathy is one of the most common complications seen in patients with cancer diagnosis with different types of neuropathy requiring different methods of treatment. Up to 30% of survivors of cancer may suffer from chronic pain, primarily in the form of neuropathy. Practice guidelines for workup and treatment of neuropathy in cancer patients remain inadequate.

There is no structured diagnostic or therapeutic approach or definitive guidelines for malignancy related polyneuropathy. Novel etiologies such as autoantibodies, and therapeutic modalities continue to evolve. Such advances create a gap in current pratice and guidelines.

Target Audience

All physicians.

Learning Objectives

  • Demonstrate a diagnostic approach to manage malignancy related or autoimmune polyneuropathy.
  • Discuss a therapeutic approach to manage malignancy related or autoimmune polyneuropathy.
  • Identify potential patients with malignancy related or autoimmune polyneuropathy for neurology referral.
