2024 Endocrinology Grand Rounds | The Endocrine Basis of Stress, its Implications, and its Management

Duarte, CA US
April 10, 2024

Mental health and stress management has not been a main focus within the medical training curriculum or practice systems.  Over the last decade there is  a clear increase in metal health disorders and burnout among both patients and providers. Patient social and psychological burden at the City of Hope care network is in general greater than that of the community given the life-threatening condition of their diagnosis.  The gap between care availability and lack of time and resources for mental health care make it difficult for providers and patients to obtain timely help.

Productivity and profit are sometimes prefered over quality and time of visits. EMR and bureaucratic activities take additional time to complete on top of patient visit time. It is, therefore, imperative to keep Faculty and staff abreast of the latest advances and standards of care to achieve improvement in patient care quality and efficiency, as well as generate avenues for clinical research collaborations.
