2024 Endocrinology Grand Rounds | Transgender Medicine

Duarte, CA US
January 10, 2024

A transgender person is someone whose gender identity differs from that typically associated with the sex they were assigned at birth. Awareness and acceptance of transgender people in the United States has increased, which has resulted in "more" transgenders, as they are more inclined to openly identifying themselves as such. Transgender patients require effective and safe treatment, which may include the need for hormone therapy, monitoring of maintenance levels, risks and complications. Endocrinologists play an integral role in transgender medicine.

The field of transgender care in endocrinology has always been a difficult and challenging topic. The patient care for this patient population is very delicate and requires the latest knowledge in the field. It is imperative that clinicians be kept up to date and abreast of the latest advancements in the field of diabetes, endocrinology & metabolism pertaining to the transgender community in order to improve patient care quality, as well as generate avenues for clinical research collaborations.
