2024 Endocrinology Grand Rounds | Updates in the Evaluation & Management of Thyroid Nodules

Duarte, CA US
November 13, 2024

Thyroid nodules are very commonly seen in the adult population. Physical examination alone may show a prevalence of 5% to 7% of thyroid nodules. Ultrasound shows a prevalence of 20% to 76% in this same population. It is imperative to stay abreast of the latest advances in the evaluation and management of thyroid nodules, and thus, standardize this based on latest evidence based guidelines.

There have been many advances in the field of thyroid neoplasia. These include updates to cytopathology reporting system, updates in thyroid nodule risk stratification system by American Thyroid Association (ATA),  etc., which has created a knowledge gap. The underlying message from these guideline changes is to decrease the number of unnecessary thyroid nodule biopsies and unncessary imaging follow-up studies, which will improve value of patient care and decrease the overall healthcare costs and risks to patients.

Target Audience
