2nd Annual Southern California Genitourinary Cancer Research Forum Overview

A formalized platform does not exist for clinicians to share clinical trial portfolios among individuals at different institutions. In addition, there is no systematic means for updating providers regarding advances in genitourinary cancers and no established forum for providers with interests in genitourinary cancers to meet.

There is a critical lack of knowledge of what clincial trials are available to patients in the Los Angeles area and is rapidly changing treatment options for patients with genitourinary cancers. It is challenging to keep pace with these developments. There are many providers who focus on genitourinary cancers in the Los Angeles area - relatively few know and interact with one another and practice multidisciplinary care optimally.

Target Audience

Medical oncologists, urologists, radiation oncologists with interests in genitourinary cancer and all other allied health care professionals interested in the subject matter.

Learning Objectives

  • Define clinical trial opportunities for patients with genitourinary cancers in the Southern California region.
  • Demonstrate understanding of best clinical practices for systemic therapy for genitourinary cancers.
  • Outline best clinical practices for genitourinary cancers in radiation and surgery.
  • Promote collaborations among investigators with interest in genitourinary cancers.
  • Discuss possible barriers and biases which may impact patient care (i.e., race, ethnicity, language, gender identity/orientation, age, socioeconomic status, attitudes, feelings or other characteristics).

Faculty, fellows, residents, and medical students are invited to submit their original research to present before the symposium, during the break, and during our networking lunch. Those interested should submit a 300-word abstract describing their research (case report, original basic science, prospective and retrospective clinical research) directly to johsu@coh.org by February 6, 2025. Applicants will be notified via email. The research will be presented via a poster format during the symposium breaks.
