Caring for Patients with Endometrial Hyperplasia/Cancer: Exploring the Initial Evaluation/Diagnosis, Surgery, Maintenance/Recurrence Treatment Options, and Survivorship Strategies to Optimize Quality of Life 

Endometrial cancer is the most common gynecologic cancer in United States and results in significant mobidity and morality. Multiple factors play a role in the effective treatment and management of patients diagnosed with endometrial cancer. There exists a tremendous amount of data which clinicians require to obtain in order to remain abreast of the most effective strategies to treat these processes and optimize quality of life.

This program will discuss the evaluation and management of endometrial hyperplasia and endometrial cancer with a focus on the evolving treatment paradigms for maintenance drugs and the use of immunotherapy/targeted agents in the setting of metastatic or recurrent endometrial cancer.  Additionally, this program will profile survivorship challenges such as the optimization of functional recovery of strength after systemic therapies, radical pelvic surgery, and/or radiation, with a focus on UTIs, urinary incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse after treatment for pelvic pre-cancer and/or cancer.

Target Audience

This educational activity is directed towards family practitioners, internal medicine, gynecology and obstetrics, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, gynecologic oncologists and other allied heath care providers interested in the topic of endometrial hyperplasia, endometrial cancer, and cancer survivorship.

Learning Objectives

  • Outline management strategies for the initial evaluation and diagnosis of endometrial hyperplasia and endometrial cancer.
  • Distinguish different management strategies including fertility preservation and surgical approach with sentinel lymph node dissection. 
  • Examine maintenance and recurrent treatment paradigms for endometrial cancer including targeted agents, immunotherapy, chemotherapy, and radiation. 
  • Identify and assess pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence in the setting of pelvic cancer treatment.
  • Outline survivorship strategies to improve quality of life for patients treated for endometrial cancer.
  • Discuss possible barriers and biases which may impact patient care (i.e., race, ethnicity, language, gender identity/orientation, age, socioeconomic status, attitudes, feelings, or other characteristics).
