Mastering Comprehensive GI Cancer Care: APP & Nursing Workshop

Gastrointestinal cancer care requires a team of professionals adept at addressing the complex needs of patients. These patients have unique set of challenges such as a rise of cancer cases in younger individuals, a high symptom burden contributing to poor quality of life and poor prognosis requiring often challenging conversations about outcomes and expectation. In addition, the fast pace of innovation in cancer systemic therapies and procedural techniques requires an innovative mind to keep up with the changes and be open to new ways of managing these patients. Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) and nurses play a significant role in the care of these patients often being first line identifying physical and emotional needs in addition to procedural needs. There is currently a lack of educational forum where APPs and nurses are trained on this complex care. This course is designed to enhance the skills of nurses and APPs, emphasizing three key areas: endoscopic oncology, effective communication and innovation.

This course endeavors to bridge the educational divide for nurses and APPs, positioning them as invaluable members of the multidisciplinary team. It rests on three foundational pillars: endoscopic oncology, adept communication, and innovation. The goal is to arm nurses and APPs with insights and tools that amplify their contribution to gastrointestinal cancer patient care in an empathetic culturally sensitive way with focus on endoscopic oncology, multidisciplinary care and innovation. The course offers valuable insights into the current needs and challenges faced by patients, emphasizing the crucial role of proficient communication. It also seeks to fill the educational gap in innovation for APPs and nurses, featuring insights from seasoned innovators.

This educational program is directed toward Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), nurses, and all other allied health care professionals interested in the subject matter.
