Prostate cancer management is evolving rapidly as new evidence and guideline updates refine staging, active surveillance, focal therapy considerations, biomarker testing, treatment intensification, PARP inhibitor use, PSMA-targeted imaging/radiogland therapy, and sequencing of therapies in advanced disease. Clinicians may not be consistently aware of how to incorporate these updates into individualized care plans across localized, recurrent, metastatic hormone-sensitive, and castration-resistant settings. This creates a gap between current practice and ideal practice, where treatment decisions should be evidence-based, multidisciplinary, biomarker-informed, and aligned with patient goals and equitable access to care.
Prostate cancer care now requires ongoing interpretation of emerging clinical trial data, updated guidelines, molecular testing results, imaging advances, and expanding therapeutic options. Busy clinicians may have limited time to synthesize frequent changes and translate them into practical treatment decisions at the point of care. Variation in access to specialized testing, multidisciplinary input, clinical trials, and supportive resources can also lead to differences in care delivery and patient outcomes.
Target Audience
Medical Oncologists, urologists, radiation oncologists, advanced practice providers, nurses, primary care providers, and other clinicians involved in the screening, diagnosis, treatment, and multidisciplinary management of patients with prostate cancer.
Learning Objectives
- Discuss current updates in prostate cancer staging, risk assessment, and guideline-based management across localized, recurrent and metastatic disease.
- Identify appropriate use of biomarker testing, PSMA imaging, PARP inhibitors, radiogland therapy, and other evolving treatment strategies for selected patients.
- Apply recent clinical evidence to personalize treatment selection and sequencing based on disease state, prior therapy, patient goals, comorbidities, and molecular findings.
- Examine strategies to improve multidisciplinary communication, shared decision making, and equitable access to prostate cancer diagnostics and treatment advances.
- Discuss possible barriers and biases which may impact patient care (i.e., race, ethnicity, language, gender identity/orientation, age, socioeconomic status, attitudes, feelings, or other characteristics).
